Backpacking trip from Tuolumne Meadows to Sunrise Lakes to Cloud's Rest to Half Dome and ending at Yosemite Valley.

Nothing beats getting in touch with nature like setting a roaring, lighter-fuel induced blaze.

After a late arrival (1:30AM or so), we slept in the truck at this campground in Tuolumne Meadows.

At the Cathedral Lakes trailhead. Judy's ready to start backpacking!

Embarking on our journey. The weather was sunny, but very breezy and cool.

IMG_3053

Me in front of one of the many big granite mountains that Yosemite is known for. I *think* this was the north side of Cathedral Peak.

Judy putting her trekking pole to good use.

IMG_3057

This little butterfly (moth?) took a liking to Judy's bright yellow windshirt.

IMG_3058

Still walking along Cathedral Peak.

Me in front of Cathedral Peak.

VIDEO: Pano of the area just before Cathedral Lake. We actually weren't planning on going to Cathedral Lake, but ended up here after making a wrong turn. Oops!

IMG_3061

Here's a really nice shot of Cathedral Peak.

VIDEO: Pano-vid of Cathedral Lake and Cathedral Peak.

Looking back at Cathedral Peak.

IMG_3064

Looking back at Cathedral Lake and Cathedral Peak. Alright, enough with the cathedrals!

IMG_3065

Which way do we go, which way do we go?

IMG_3066

Looking up at Matthes Crest.

IMG_3067

Cool rock formation, but not sure the name of it, if it even had a name.

IMG_3068

Another shot of the cool rock mountain.

IMG_3069

Various shots of Judy hiking along the John Muir trail...

IMG_3071

...passing more granite mountains...

IMG_3072

...slowly making our way to the Sunrise High Sierra Camp (HSC).

IMG_3073

It stayed breezy throughout the day and was actually kind of cold.

IMG_3076

We spotted this deer grazing on the grass.

IMG_3079

Coincidentally, we met a couple of guys from Palo Alto when we passed through the Sunrise HSC. We pushed past the HSC because we wanted to camp in a more secluded area.

IMG_3081

We planned to camp at one of the Sunrise Lakes. The nice thing was that there was potable water at the HSC so we didn't have to filter any water the first day.

IMG_3082

We found this great campsite by the first, and largest, of the Sunrise Lakes.

IMG_3083

This is where we had dinner. Nice view, huh?

IMG_3087

We were a bit worried because some dark clouds started to appear as the sun set.

MVI_3090

VIDEO: Check out these cool water surface effects on the lake. I think it was steam from the lake being swept along by the wind>>>

IMG_3091

After a very chilly evening (one guy we spoke to the next day said it got to 18F - brrrr!), we awoke to clear blue skies. This view's from inside our tent.

MVI_3092

VIDEO: Pano of the lake we camped at. It was a beautiful day and it looked like the cold winds from the prior day were gone.

IMG_3093

Who is that masked bandit?!! Taking a tip from our recent Nepal trip, Judy prepares herself in case the winds return.

IMG_3094

The masked bandit prepares for battle.

IMG_3095

This didn't come out too clear in the picture, but water definitely froze the night before. We were really glad to have high-quality down sleeping bags!

Hiking by the second of the Sunrise Lakes.
