Flipping the iMac face down. The towel's important to prevent scratching of the screen.

There's three screws that hold everything together. You can seem them here.

Here's the ambient light sensor. Don't mistake it for the screw!

After loosening the screws, the rear of the iMac rotates off. Oooh, aahhh!

IMG_0630

Evidence of Apple's unbelievable attention to detail. The inside of the iMac looks incredible!

A closer shot of the back panel. You can see some shielding as well as the hinge mechanism that enables the iMac screen to tilt.

Here's a shot of the slot-loading Super Drive.

IMG_0633

It looks like there's two fans, each connected to a sealed duct that draws cool air in to the enclosure.

This is the 250GB serial ATA hard drive.

The power supply is at the bottom of the pic and the connectors are neatly arranged in a vertical line at the left of the pic.

Here are the RAM slots. The stock configuration of my iMac contains a single 512MB stick. Where there was once one...

IMG_0637

...there's now two. An additional 1GB stick brings the RAM total to 1.5GB. Too much? Nah!

IMG_0638

The screws are not just regular screws. This is the middle screw area. When you tighten the screw, it pulls this plate in which engages and secures the back panel.

IMG_0639

Here's one of the side screws. When you tighten it, it pulls a metal bar forward which engages and secures the back panel. A similar feature exists on the other side.

The neat line of connectors.

Here's a shot of the iMac stand. You can see the rubbery non-slip pad that keeps the iMac in place as well as the Product ID label.

Mmmmm... 1.5GB RAM... iMac happy...
